Minas Gerais Governor Mateus Simões faces social media suspension

The Electoral Court has ordered the suspension of two social media profiles belonging to Mateus Simões, the Governor of Minas Gerais and a candidate for reelection. The decision targets his Threads account (@mateus.simoesmg) and Instagram account (@governadormateus), which were not included in his official candidacy registration.

The measure follows a legal challenge by the campaign of Gabriel Azevedo (MDB). The court ruled that the unregistered accounts could be used for electoral propaganda without the oversight or restrictions required by the Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais (TRE-MG).

Meta has been ordered to suspend the accounts and provide registration data, including IP records and identification details, within two days. Simões and his coalition have two days to present a defense.
