Minas Gerais boosts health system with new staff hires, digital admissions platform and mobile clinics

The Minas Gerais State Health Secretariat (SES‑MG) published the final results of its 2026 public competition, selecting 380 specialists in health policy and management to be appointed by early July, marking the first health‑sector hiring drive since 2014.

A new digital platform, Core Saúde MG, has been operating for one month. It regulated the admission of over 120,000 patients, doubled daily request volumes, reduced average wait times for hospital beds and cut deaths by 36% compared with the same period the previous year. The system uses mandatory data fields and clinical protocols to prioritize cases, with medical regulators reviewing each request.

The mobile unit program “Carreta Saúde Mais Perto”, funded with about R$10 million, has already delivered more than 3,000 specialized consultations and exams across dozens of municipalities since February. It offers cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics, dermatology, ophthalmology and other services, with a schedule for further stops in Sabará, São José da Lapa and Belo Horizonte and additional towns through July.

The Instituto de Previdência dos Servidores do Estado de Minas Gerais (Ipsemg) reopened the B wing of the Hospital Governador Israel Pinheiro, adding 72 new beds and raising total capacity by 23% to 460 beds. The expansion includes a new obstetric centre and modern equipment, expected to increase annual procedures by roughly 239 000 and reduce admission waiting times from up to seven days to under 24 hours.
