Minas Gerais Medical Council convenes emergency meeting on doctor safety
The Minas Gerais State Medical Council (CRM‑MG) held an emergency meeting on 24 July 2026 in Montes Claros to discuss strategies for preventing violence against physicians and other health workers. The gathering, held at the SANCOOP auditorium, was prompted by a recent assault on a doctor at the Santa Casa hospital, where the physician suffered a serious head injury and required intensive‑care treatment.
Attendees included CRM‑MG president Ricardo Hernane Lacerda Gonçalves de Oliveira, the council’s Doctor‑Prerogatives Defense Committee chair Victor Hugo de Melo, council member Itagiba de Castro Filho, local health officials, hospital directors and representatives of the regional health council. The meeting formed part of the council’s “Itinerant Council” campaign, aiming to map safety conditions across health units, share experiences among municipalities, and develop collaborative mechanisms to protect medical staff and patients.
