Minas Gerais mining royalties: 10 cities hold 74% of total
Ten municipalities in Minas Gerais accounted for 74% of the R$ 3.6 billion collected in mining royalties (CFEM) in 2025. Conceição do Mato Dentro leads the ranking, followed by Congonhas, Nova Lima, Mariana, and Itabira.
Iron ore was the primary driver of revenue, generating R$ 3.09 billion, which represents 86.44% of the total CFEM collected in the state. Among corporations, Vale contributed R$ 1.54 billion, accounting for 43.22% of the total royalties.
Other significant mineral contributors included gold, which generated R$ 268.7 million (7.53%), phosphate at R$ 66.3 million (1.86%), and limestone at R$ 44.9 million (1.26%). In total, 528 cities in the state saw mining revenue, involving 1,591 companies.
