Minas Gerais organ donation refusal rates drop below national average
Minas Gerais is seeing a significant trend in organ and tissue donation, with family refusal rates dropping to 29.4% in 2025, compared to 33.09% in 2024. This rate is notably lower than the Brazilian national average of 45%.
As a result of this trend, the state is expected to surpass its previous transplant records. In 2025, 1,678 operations had been performed as of October 9, moving toward the 2,094 surgeries recorded in the previous year.
Local healthcare professionals, such as those from the Hospital Risoleta Tolentino Neves donation team, have been credited with helping families navigate these difficult decisions through humanized approaches and specialized support.
