Tocantins projected to post Brazil's fastest GDP growth in 2026
A study prepared by the Economic Department of Banco Santander forecasts that the state of Tocantins will record the highest economic expansion among Brazilian states in 2026, with real GDP growth projected at 3.85 %. The outlook attributes the surge to strong performance in agribusiness, which is expected to grow 15 % in 2025 and continue expanding by 5.3 % in 2026 and 4.0 % in 2027, and to a dynamic industrial sector projected to grow around 5 % per year over the same period. Services are also set to increase by about 2.9 % in 2025‑2026, slowing slightly to 2.0 % in 2027.
The report highlights climate‑related risks, noting that “eventos climáticos permanecem entre os principais pontos de atenção para o cenário projetado, especialmente diante da possibilidade de ocorrência do fenômeno El Niño nos próximos anos”. Tocantins currently contributes roughly 8.7 % of the North region’s GDP and its robust growth is expected to keep it ahead of the national average through 2027.
