Governor Mateus Simões opens new health unit in Cana Verde
On Sunday, 14 June, Minas Gerais Governor Mateus Simões inaugurated a new Unidade Básica de Saúde (UBS) in the municipality of Cana Verde. Construction began in 2024 and the facility cost about R$1.5 million, with an additional R$500 thousand earmarked for equipment using savings from the municipal budget.
The UBS is designed to serve roughly 3,000 residents of the town of about 5,500 people and will provide vaccination rooms, medical and gynecological consultancies, a stabilization area, two dental chairs, prenatal and post‑natal care, chronic‑disease monitoring, cancer screening, rapid tests for HIV, syphilis, pregnancy and other services.
The project is part of the state’s “Governo Presente” programme, which aims to deliver health infrastructure in 19 cities by June and to raise the total number of UBSs in Minas Gerais from over 200 (since 2019) to 380 by the end of 2026. Since 2019 the state has invested more than R$6.3 million in primary‑care facilities in Cana Verde, and the municipal health fund has received R$28.6 million.
