Minato City to host youth peace gathering following Hiroshima and Nagasaki visits

Minato City will host the “Peace Gathering: Youth Conveying Thoughts of Peace and the Future” on August 22, 2026, at Libra Hall. The event features 24 local middle and high school students who will share their experiences and reflections following recent trips to Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Fourteen members of the Minato City Peace Youth Corps visited Nagasaki, while ten middle school students visited Hiroshima. Their activities included attending peace memorial ceremonies, studying the Tokyo air raids, and interacting with evacuees from Ukraine. During the gathering, the students will speak about the horrors of war, the threat of nuclear weapons, and the importance of peace.

The program will also include messages from the mayors of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Yame, as well as interactive audiovisual presentations and a peace memorial concert performed by local high school brass bands.
