Rivian's Mind Robotics Secures $400 Million, Surpassing $1 Billion in Funding
Mind Robotics, the artificial‑intelligence‑driven robotics spinoff founded by Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, closed a $400 million financing round that brings its total capital raised to more than $1 billion and pushes its valuation to $3.4 billion. The round was led by Kleiner Perkins and included investors such as Incharge Capital (Volkswagen’s venture arm), Meritech Capital, Redpoint Ventures, SV Angel, A‑Star Capital and Garuda Ventures.
The funding will be used to scale production of AI‑powered robotic arms and mobile platforms, expand research and development on perception and decision‑making models, and establish global sales and support centers. Mind Robotics’ robots are being trained inside Rivian’s Normal, Illinois plant to automate tasks like parts picking, assembly and wiring, addressing labor shortages in U.S. manufacturing. Rivian holds a stake in the company and serves as its primary manufacturing partner, while the spinoff plans to market its systems to other factories worldwide. Rivian shares rose about 4 % after the announcement.
