Mindanao Development Authority supports Davao City Council’s push to lower electricity rates

Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Chair Secretary Leo Tereso A. Magno told Davao City Councilor Danny Dayanghirang that the council’s concerns about rising electricity costs will be conveyed to the national government. Magno affirmed MinDA’s backing of the council’s call for coordinated action among government agencies, local officials, regulators and utilities to make power more affordable.

MinDA said it is working with the Department of Energy, the Energy Regulatory Commission, the National Electrification Administration, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines and other power sector stakeholders. It highlighted that electricity prices are affected by the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market, fuel prices, generation mix, plant outages and transmission constraints. The agency is pushing for more generation capacity, stronger transmission, faster renewable energy and battery storage projects, and the rehabilitation of the Agus‑Pulangi Hydropower Complex to improve price stability and reduce costs for consumers.
