Mine City police investigate suspected homicide at confectionery shop

Police are investigating a suspected homicide following the death of an 80-year-old man at a Japanese confectionery shop and residence in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture.

On August 28, the victim, Kazumasa Saito, was found bleeding from his head by his eldest son. Forensic results indicated that the cause of death was hypovolemic shock resulting from being struck in the head with a blunt object.

Saito's wife, who lives at the same residence, also sustained serious injuries including a fractured skull and is currently hospitalized. Authorities have not yet recovered a weapon and have deployed approximately 100 officers to investigate the circumstances of the attack.
