Minecraft announces Nintendo Switch 2 release and upgrade details

Mojang has announced that Minecraft will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026, with pre-orders now available. The release includes three digital tiers: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions, alongside a physical retail version. All digital editions will feature the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack.

A key technical enhancement is the introduction of ‘Vibrant Visuals,’ which improves lighting, shadows, water, and environmental atmosphere, though availability may vary by mode.

Existing players owning the digital version of Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch are eligible for a free upgrade to the Standard Edition on Switch 2. This upgrade must be claimed via the Nintendo eShop by the end of January 2027. Players can also transfer their existing worlds and save data from the original console to the new hardware.

Additionally, Mojang revealed a winter-themed game update featuring ice caves, new crystal resources, and a new hostile mob called the Frostbite. The update also includes interface redesigns and expanded social and technical tools for players and server operators.
