Minecraft introduces new Ice Caves biome in latest update

Mojang has released the Minecraft Java Snapshot and Bedrock Preview builds for the fourth Game Drop of 2026, introducing the new Ice Caves biome. This underground region is primarily composed of Packed Ice and Calcite blocks, featuring natural light sources from Ice Crystals and hazardous icicles that can fall from ceilings.

The update introduces new gameplay elements, including Frostbite Zombies—a frozen variant that can use Ice Balls as projectiles—and a new Freezing effect. Players can also utilize new Freezing Potions and Arrows. The update also includes various bug fixes, graphical improvements, and user interface updates.

Players can access these features through Beta and Preview programs. Xbox users can join via the Xbox Insider Hub, while PlayStation players can access the Preview through the game's settings menu. Mobile players can also participate in testing programs, though the Nintendo Switch is currently excluded from the Preview program.
