Minecraft Java Edition brings back legendary Far Lands terrain

The iconic ‘Far Lands’ terrain phenomenon has resurfaced in Minecraft Java Edition 26.3 Pre-Release 1. This legendary terrain glitch, which was absent for fifteen years, can currently be triggered using a hidden debug flag named ‘DEBUG_ENABLE_FARLANDS’ or via a specific JVM argument.

Unlike the original version, these new anomalies appear much closer to the world center, starting around 2.8 million blocks on the X and Z axes. The resulting landscape features massive vertical walls, fragmented formations, and floating underground structures. In some instances, the terrain generation stops entirely, leaving only subterranean structures to generate.

Observers noted that the generation can cause significant performance lag due to infinite waterfalls falling into endless lava pools. Mojang Studios has not officially included this mechanism in the public changelogs or confirmed whether it will remain a permanent feature in the final release.
