Minecraft set for Nintendo Switch 2 release on October 27, 2026

Mojang has announced that a native version of Minecraft will be released for the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026. This new edition is designed to leverage the enhanced hardware of the upcoming console to provide smoother gameplay and significant graphical improvements.

A key feature of this release is the ‘Vibrant Visuals’ technology, which introduces enhanced lighting, more detailed shadows, volumetric fog, and improved water reflections. These upgrades will also extend to the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up Pack.

For existing players, Mojang confirmed that save data can be transferred from the original Switch to the Switch 2 version. Additionally, a digital upgrade path will be available for those who already own the game digitally, though specific details regarding this process are expected to follow at a later date. A closed beta for selected players has already commenced via the eShop.
