Minecraft offers free upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 digital owners
Mojang has announced that Minecraft will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026. The new edition features the ‘Vibrant Visuals’ update, which includes improved lighting, shadows, and reflective water effects. It also includes the Mario Mash-Up Pack.
Users who already own a digital copy of Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch are eligible for a free upgrade to the Standard Edition on Switch 2. This offer is available until January 31, 2027. However, the free upgrade does not automatically apply to those who purchased the game via physical cartridges; official confirmation regarding physical copies is still pending.
The Switch 2 version also supports world transfers, allowing players to move their existing saves from the previous console. While the Standard Edition is free for eligible digital owners, other versions such as the Deluxe and Ultimate Collections are available for purchase, with some promotional discounts currently offered.
