Zonguldak miner seriously injured after falling into coal silo

A 27-year-old miner, Ufuk Demir, was seriously injured in a workplace accident at the Türkiye Taşkömürü Kurumu (TTK) Kozlu facility in Zonguldak. The incident occurred around 9:00 PM while Demir was cleaning a clogged coal silo approximately 400 meters underground.

During the cleaning process, Demir lost his balance and fell into the silo, where a pile of coal fell on top of him, trapping him. His colleagues immediately rescued him and provided first aid. Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu reported that Demir briefly lost consciousness and his heart stopped, but he was successfully resuscitated by medical teams on-site.

Demir was transported to Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University Hospital, where he remains in intensive care on life support. While his condition is described as stable, he continues to receive medical monitoring. Local authorities, including the TTK General Manager and regional police, visited the hospital to receive updates on his condition and meet with his family. An investigation into the accident and workplace safety protocols has been launched.
