Miner killed during altercation at Issano bar

Police in Guyana's Cuyuni-Mazaruni Region are investigating the murder of Shawn Abrams, a miner from Charity, Essequibo Coast. The incident occurred around 00:45 hrs on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at a bar in the 14 Miles Backdam area of Issano, Middle Mazaruni River.

Reports indicate that Abrams was consuming alcohol with three friends and a 31-year-old miner from Canje when an altercation broke out between Abrams and the suspect. An intervening party attempted to separate the two men, noticing bloodstains on Abrams’ vest. Abrams reportedly walked a short distance before collapsing and dying at the scene.

The suspect fled the area following the scuffle. Law enforcement officials have searched several mining camps in the 14 Miles Backdam area, but the individual has not yet been located. Detectives have processed the scene and are continuing investigations to apprehend the suspect.
