Mineral de la Reforma strengthens K9 Unit for security and search

The K9 Unit of Mineral de la Reforma has established itself as a specialized security and search corporation in the state of Hidalgo, Mexico. Under the administration of Mayor Eduardo Medécigo Rubio, the unit has undergone continuous professionalization through national and international seminars.

The canine teams specialize in searching for missing persons and detecting narcotics, explosives, weapons, and fentanyl. The unit has received certifications from the Federación Canófila Mexicana A. C. and the Hidalgo State Commission for the Search of Persons. Their operational impact includes participation in 81 inter-institutional operations alongside state and federal agencies, which contributed to the location of skeletal remains.

Beyond security, the unit has expanded into animal protection and welfare. In collaboration with Hospital con Garra, the unit participated in 453 investigations into crimes against animals, resulting in the rescue of 23 living animals and the recovery of three canine bodies. Additionally, the unit provides training to personnel from municipalities such as Pachuca, Zempoala, Tizayuca, Huasca, and Zacualtipán, and has donated dogs to Villa de Tezontepec, Atotonilco de Tula, and Mineral del Monte through the ‘Huellas que Protegen’ program.
