Minerals Commission denies wrongful termination of Narawa mining leases
The Minerals Commission of Ghana has denied allegations by Narawa Company Limited that its mining leases for the Nsutam and Osiem concessions were wrongfully or unlawfully terminated. The Commission stated that the termination followed Narawa’s failure to pay USD 909,127 in required Annual Mineral Right fees, as mandated by the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006.
According to the Commission, notices to remedy the breach were issued, but the company failed to pay within the stipulated period. Following a recommendation to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, the termination was approved in August 2025, and a formal notice was issued to Narawa on September 3, 2025. The Commission maintains that the rights have reverted to the State and has granted new mineral rights to other entities.
Narawa Company Limited has contested the termination through arbitration proceedings initiated in December 2025. The company’s Corporate Affairs Manager, Doris Attoh, has alleged that the company has been prevented from accessing its concession and offices by other entities. She further claimed that despite numerous petitions to the Presidency, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, and the Criminal Investigations Department, the company has not received an official response regarding the alleged takeover.
