Minga Guazú prison officials find suspicious powder in hidden compartment
Authorities at the Minga Guazú Social Reinsertion Penitentiary Center in Alto Paraná, Paraguay, mobilized explosives experts following the discovery of a suspicious substance during a routine inspection on Saturday.
The incident began around 08:10 when prison agents inspected a 1.2-liter thermos being brought in by a female visitor for an inmate in the High Security Module 1. Upon inspection, officials discovered a hidden compartment within the double-bottomed container holding a package of grayish-white powder.
National Police explosives specialists conducted a technical inspection around 11:00. A field test on the powder yielded a positive reaction, prompting authorities to secure critical sectors and routes within the facility to prevent potential criminal activity. The visitor claimed she was unaware of the object's contents, stating it had been given to her by a third party. The substance has been taken for further analysis to determine its exact composition.
