Mingxi County launches remote services for overseas citizens
Mingxi County in China's Fujian Province has launched 'Qiaoyiban', a cross-border administrative service platform designed to assist its large overseas population. The county is home to over 17,000 residents living abroad, representing approximately 15.1% of its total population, with a significant community located in Italy.
Previously, overseas citizens faced significant logistical and financial burdens to complete routine tasks, such as driver's license renewals, which required physical presence in China. Ding Youqing, executive vice president of the Mingxi Overseas Chinese Association in Italy, noted that such trips could cost between 30,000 and 40,000 yuan due to flights, accommodation, and lost income.
With the new digital model inaugurated in 2023, many procedures can now be completed remotely in as little as thirty minutes via platforms like WeChat, eliminating the need for expensive international travel for simple administrative filings.
