Minh Chau Island school opens to host first high school cohort

The 2026-2027 school year marks a historic milestone for Minh Chau, Hanoi’s only island commune, with the inauguration of the Minh Chau Primary, Middle, and High School. For the first time, 76 tenth-grade students will be able to attend high school on their home island, eliminating the need to cross the Red River by boat—a difficult journey that previous generations had to endure, especially during rainy or flood seasons.

The new multi-level school facility involved a total investment of 109 billion VND. The campus features a new five-story building with a floor area of 4,665 m², including specialized rooms for STEM, technology, natural science laboratories, informatics, a modern library, and outdoor physical education areas. The school is equipped with smart audiovisual systems and high-speed internet to support modern educational methods.

The opening ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including Politburo member and Central Organizing Commission Head Nguyen Duy Ngoc, and Hanoi Party Deputy Secretary Nguyen Van Phong. A total of 970 students attended the ceremony, representing the first full cohort across all three educational levels at the newly completed institution.
