Minha Casa, Minha Vida beneficiaries face property loss due to irregular sales

Irregular sales of properties within the Minha Casa, Minha Vida program, particularly under the subsidized Faixa 1 modality, can lead to the loss of the home and the mandatory return of government subsidies. In Nova Iguaçu, Rio de Janeiro, more than ten advertisements were detected for apartments in the Villa Provance development being sold for up to R$ 45,000, even before the official handover of keys.

The Ministry of Cities clarifies that selling subsidized Faixa 1 properties is prohibited during the 60-month contract period. Even after this period, the property must be fully paid off and the title regularized. Such informal sales, including receipts or promises of sale, do not constitute a legal transfer of ownership, leaving both sellers and buyers at significant legal and financial risk.

Separately, in Maceió, the Minha Casa Legal program is conducting land regularization efforts to provide legal security to residents in vulnerable areas. The initiative, led by the Maceió City Hall through Iplam, offers free registration and guidance to help citizens obtain formal property titles.
