Minha Melhor Amiga breaks Brazilian box office records

The Brazilian comedy “Minha Melhor Amiga” has achieved record-breaking success at the domestic box office. Within approximately three weeks of its September 3 release, the film has surpassed 4 million viewers and accumulated between R$ 70.6 million and R$ 73 million in revenue.

Directed by Susana Garcia and starring Mônica Martelli and Ingrid Guimarães, the film follows two friends in their 50s who travel to Europe after their daughters depart for an exchange program in Portugal. The production has become the highest-grossing Brazilian comedy in the post-pandemic era, surpassing the performance of “O Alto da Compadecida 2”.

According to data from the National Cinema Agency (Ancine), the film has secured a spot among the top ten most-watched movies of 2026 in Brazil, standing out as the only national title in a list otherwise dominated by major international franchises such as “Spider-Man: A New Day” and “Toy Story 5”. The film's success is also being attributed to its popularity on social media, where viewers have shared experiences of attending screenings as social events.
