Minho region advocates for new Metropolitan Area
Proponents of regional development in Portugal are advocating for the creation of the Minho Metropolitan Area to address issues of excessive centralization in Lisbon. The Minho region is described as a dynamic territory characterized by industry, exports, universities, and a strong municipal presence.
The proposal seeks to provide the region with adequate instruments to enhance the economy, retain talent, organize regional mobility, and address the housing crisis. Supporters argue that such a structure would allow for better cooperation with Galicia and more active participation in public policy definition, moving away from a reliance on concentrated decision-making structures.
