Mining and energy sectors drive growth through asset reopening and large investments
Global mining and energy sectors are seeing renewed activity through the reopening of existing assets and large-scale investment projects. In the copper sector, companies are leveraging existing infrastructure to address supply shortages. In Australia, Sibanye-Stillwater has approved the Mt Lyell copper and gold project in Tasmania, with an estimated investment of US$340 million. The project is expected to begin execution in early 2027, aiming for production by 2029 with an annual output of approximately 26,000 tonnes of copper.
In Argentina, GeoPark and Gas y Petróleo del Neuquén (GyP) have proposed an investment exceeding US$1 billion to develop the Loma Jarillosa Este and Puesto Silva Oeste blocks in the Vaca Muerta region. The goal is to increase production from 1,500 to 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day within three years through intensive drilling and shared processing facilities. The success of this expansion depends on well productivity, drilling costs, and the approval of the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI).
