Mining and energy sectors expand in Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso

In Côte d'Ivoire, Fortuna Mining is working to meet an annual production target of 160,000 to 170,000 ounces at the Séguéla gold mine following a decline in the third quarter. The company is also planning a plant extension to exceed 200,000 ounces per year by 2028. The Séguéla mine, located in the Worodougou region, is 90% owned by Fortuna Mining, with the Ivorian state holding a 10% stake.

Meanwhile, Burkina Faso is implementing reforms to achieve energy and mining sovereignty. Under the direction of Minister Yacouba Zabré Gouba, the country is utilizing a new mining code and local content legislation to drive strategic autonomy. Significant progress has been made in solar energy, with various plants such as Kodeni, Pâ, and Zano contributing to the grid. In the first half of 2026, national electricity production reached 1,027.4 GWh, with renewable sources accounting for 239.3 GWh. New thermal and solar capacities are scheduled for commissioning throughout late 2026 to ensure universal electricity access.
