Mining authorities halt illegal activities in Bolivia and Argentina
Authorities in Bolivia and Argentina have taken action against illegal or irregular mining activities in their respective regions.
In El Alto, Bolivia, the Administrative Mining Jurisdictional Authority (AJAM) intervened to halt illegal mining near the Milluni dam. Officials reported seeing soil removal, machinery, and unusual water discoloration at the site. The water is being sent for analysis to determine necessary environmental actions. The intervention followed reports from a legitimate mining actor regarding unauthorized exploitation in the area.
In San Rafael, Argentina, the Mining Environmental Police (PAM) suspended operations at a flagstone quarry after detecting the unauthorized use of explosives. While the quarry had general authorization to operate, it had not declared or received permission for explosive use. The incident was reported to the National Agency for Controlled Materials (ANMaC) for further investigation.
