Mining Companies Expand Student Training Programs in Argentina and Chile
In Mendoza, Argentina, the Ministry of Energy and Environment’s Mining Directorate conducted a technical visit to the Palumbo quarry to evaluate its suitability for the provincial “Mining in First Person” program. The initiative aims to bring mining operations into schools through guided tours and classroom talks, with officials noting that the visit “allowed a detailed understanding of the facility and progress toward integrating it into the program.”
In Calama, Chile, students from the Technical School Don Bosco completed a practicum at Minera El Abra, observing the full production chain from ore extraction to cathode dispatch. Participants praised the hands‑on learning, with one student saying the experience “gave me new knowledge every day.” The partnership, now ten years old, has placed 87 students in the mine, with 20 interns this year, linking education directly to the mining sector.
Both programs seek to strengthen local skilled labor pipelines and foster community ties with the mining industry.
