Mining developments advance in Chile with new exploration and financing

Vortex Metals has announced a new strategy to advance its exploration portfolio in the Americas, specifically targeting its flagship Illapel copper project in Chile’s Coquimbo Region. To support this, the company has hired Global Frontier Advisors (GFA) and established an Advisory Council featuring former U.S. ambassadors Roberta S. Jacobson and James “Jimmy” Story. Recent high-resolution aerial radiometric and magnetic surveys at Illapel aim to refine drilling targets for upcoming exploration programs.

Separately, Chilean Cobalt Corp. has received a non-binding letter of interest from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) for up to US$375 million. The potential financing is intended to support the development of the La Cobaltera and El Cofre projects in Chile’s Atacama Region, which focus on cobalt and copper. The company plans to submit a formal application in 2027, noting that any final agreement would depend on due diligence and formal approvals.
