Goiás economy grows through mining and agriculture amid election debates

Goiás is experiencing significant economic shifts driven by mining and agriculture. A study by the Mauro Borges Institute shows mining has boosted municipal GDP by 32% and tax revenue by 30%, though experts warn of potential dependency and infrastructure gaps in public services and education.

In the agricultural sector, the state has consolidated its leadership in tomato, sorghum, and sunflower production, while reaching 20.3 million tons of soybean production. This has elevated Goiás to the fifth position in Brazil for agricultural production value.

Political activity for the 2026 elections is intensifying. Governor Daniel Vilela has proposed accelerating the payment of judicial debts (RPVs and precatórios) through real estate funds and technology. Meanwhile, PT candidate Luis Cesar Bueno has pledged to settle debts with court-appointed lawyers within six months of taking office and seeks to end the backlog of precatórios through agreements with the judiciary.

In legal developments, the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) overturned a regional decision to allow Rafael Marra to run for state deputy in the 2026 elections.
