Kinross Gold presents US$1.8 billion Lobo-Marte project in Chile
Kinross Gold has presented the details of its Lobo-Marte gold project in the Atacama Region of Chile to local authorities, suppliers, and partners of the Corporation for the Development of the Atacama Region (CORPROA).
The project involves an initial investment of US$1.8 billion and is expected to have a 16-year lifespan. During its peak construction phase, the project is projected to require approximately 3,500 workers, while operations are expected to generate around 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.
Kinross aims to integrate the project into the regional value chain, with the company projecting that Chile could eventually account for nearly half of its global gold production. Discussions with CORPROA also emphasized the need to prepare the local workforce to meet the technical demands of the upcoming construction and operational phases.
