Mining exports reach historic highs in Ecuador
Mining exports have reached a historic milestone in Ecuador, with Aurelian Ecuador and Ecuacorriente securing the top two positions in the country’s ranking of the 100 largest exporters for 2025. Aurelian Ecuador, which operates the Fruta del Norte gold mine, reported exports of US$ 1,654.9 million, a 39.1% annual increase. Ecuacorriente, operator of the Mirador copper project, followed in second place, marking a significant shift in a trade landscape traditionally dominated by shrimp, bananas, and cacao.
Ecuador’s broader economy also showed notable trends, including a current account surplus of US$ 1,425 million. International sales reached a record US$ 10,263.3 million, driven largely by a 36.9% year-on-year increase in oil exports due to higher crude prices. While non-oil exports saw a slight decline, shrimp exports grew by 7.9% to US$ 2,554.4 million. Additionally, remittances from workers abroad reached US$ 2,041.3 million, providing continued support to the national economy.
