Mining industry advances electrification with heavy electric trucks and new charging solutions

The mining industry is transitioning from experimental electric machinery to large-scale operational use. In China, a fleet of TLE120 electric mining trucks, each with a capacity of approximately 75 tons, has been deployed at the Wengfu phosphate mine in Guizhou province. This implementation follows extensive testing of various new energy vehicle models to ensure productivity and performance within an industrial environment capable of producing 3.5 million tons annually.

To support this shift toward electrification, Epiroc has launched a new generation of charging solutions specifically designed for the extreme conditions of underground mining. These chargers feature an IP65 rating to resist dust and moisture and allow for remote charging posts to be installed up to 300 meters away. This decentralized approach aims to reduce equipment travel time and minimize waiting periods. The new infrastructure is designed to be manufacturer-independent, allowing for flexible integration with various electrified vehicle fleets.
