Mining industry focuses on AI integration and production expansion

The mining sector is undergoing significant technological shifts and production adjustments. At the Future Mining Forum in Katowice, experts discussed the integration of digitalization, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things to enhance safety and efficiency. Key developments include the use of InSAR satellite technology from the European Space Agency to monitor ground deformation and risk, as well as KGHM Polska Miedź’s focus on developing internal AI tools to support human decision-making.

In terms of production, Bogdanka has announced plans to maintain a production level of approximately 8 million tons of coal in 2026. The company aims to increase its exports, targeting markets in Southern Europe while noting that the war in Ukraine continues to influence supply logistics. Bogdanka reported increased operational efficiency in the first half of 2026, with commercial coal production rising by 13.1 percent and its market share in Polish professional power supply increasing to 31 percent.
