Mining projects advance in Algeria and Burkina Faso

Mining projects in Algeria and Burkina Faso are entering significant new phases. In Algeria, construction has accelerated at the Tala Hamza-Oued Amizour zinc and lead mine near Béjaïa. The project, managed by the joint venture Bejaia Zinc & Lead—comprising Terramin (49%) and Algerian public companies ENOF and ORGM (51%)—is part of a national strategy to diversify the economy. Recent developments include the launch of preparatory access works by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, alongside infrastructure projects such as high-voltage power lines and highway interchanges.

In Burkina Faso, the Bielméra Mining project has reached a 90% completion rate. This project is notable for its unique financing model, being the first Burkinabè mine funded primarily through community shareholding. Managed by the Agency for the Promotion of Community Entrepreneurship (APEC), the site has transitioned from semi-mechanized operations to a miniaturized industrial mine with a processing capacity of 100 tonnes of ore per day. Plant testing is scheduled to begin in the first week of October 2026.
