Mining safety and community training initiatives in Chile and Cuba

mining safety first aid training occupational health geology workforce recognition

In Chile, mining authorities and companies are implementing safety and training programs across different regions. In the Biobío Region, the Seremi of Mining, Daniel Escobar, conducted an informative session at the Fe Grande coal mine to discuss risk prevention, regulatory compliance, and safety protocols. This initiative follows the National Table for Mining Safety and aims to protect the approximately 300 workers operating across 17 regional mining sites.

In the Caleta Cifuncho area, Minera Las Cenizas organized a first aid training workshop for local residents. Led by a technician from the Chilean Safety Association (ACHS), the course provided practical knowledge on responding to falls, hemorrhages, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to mitigate risks in remote locations far from medical centers.

In Villa Clara, Cuba, the Empresa Geominera del Centro held a ceremony to recognize the long-term service and dedication of geological and mining workers. The event, attended by CTC Secretary Maglin del Sol Martínez, included the presentation of the ‘René Ramos Latour’ distinction and honors for employees marking 40 and 50 years of service.
