Mining sectors in Argentina and Chile report record revenues and tax payments

Mining sectors in Argentina and Chile are reporting significant financial milestones driven by commodity prices. In Argentina, mineral exports reached a historic record of US$ 6,059 million during the first eight months of 2026. This represents a 65.7% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Metaliferous minerals, particularly gold and silver, were the primary drivers, with gold alone accounting for US$ 404 million in August.

In Chile, private mining companies have seen a substantial rise in tax contributions due to high copper prices. During the first half of the year, the top fifteen mining companies paid US$ 4,492 million in taxes, a 61% increase over the previous year. The Escondida mine, operated by BHP, contributed US$ 2,394 million, accounting for 53% of the total industry payments. Other significant contributors included Collahuasi and Los Pelambres.
