Mining sectors in Chad and Burkina Faso undergo regulatory and management reforms

Chad has launched a national workshop in N’Djamena to validate a new mining code reform. Led by the Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Geology, Fatima Haram Acyl, the initiative aims to modernize the legislative framework to improve transparency, governance, and traceability. The reform focuses on environmental protection, safeguarding the rights of local communities, and promoting local content by prioritizing national employment and the domestic processing of minerals.

In Burkina Faso, the National Office for the Securing of Mining Sites (ONASSIM) has convened a workshop in Ouagadougou to address conflict management within the sector. The program aims to equip regional governors, mining directors, and industry operators with tools to prevent and resolve disputes related to land use, coexistence between industrial and artisanal miners, and the distribution of socio-economic benefits. The initiative seeks to improve state coordination and crisis anticipation across the country’s 17 industrial mines and over 800 artisanal sites.
