Mining sectors in Chile and Peru face geopolitical and labor challenges

The mining and metallurgical sectors in Chile and Peru are facing distinct structural challenges according to recent industry studies. In Chile, an EY report identifies geopolitical uncertainty as the primary external challenge for the sector. Approximately 50% of surveyed companies in Chile view geopolitical instability as a major risk over the next three years, a significant increase from 17% in 2025. This shift is attributed to competition for critical minerals, trade tensions between major economic blocs, and the redefinition of global supply chains.

In Peru, the mining sector is experiencing high labor mobility. A ManpowerGroup Perú study reveals that 92.5% of professionals in the mining and energy sector are considering changing jobs. Despite this high intention to leave, 62% of respondents expressed satisfaction with their salaries and benefits. This trend occurs alongside growing demand for technical and digital profiles, as direct employment in the Peruvian mining sector reached 287,537 workers in May 2026, a 9.4% increase compared to the previous year.
