Mining sectors in Peru and Mexico report production growth and economic impact

In Peru, the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reported increased production for several key metals in June 2026. Iron production saw a significant cumulative increase of 41.1% from January to June compared to the previous year. Tin production rose by 12.9% year-on-year for the month of June, with a 6.5% cumulative increase for the first half of the year. Molybdenum production also grew, with a 5.4% annual increase in June, largely driven by output in Arequipa, Moquegua, and Tacna. Additionally, copper production increased by 1.9% during the first six months of the year.

In Mexico, a study by the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE) was presented at the Durango Mining Congress 2026. The research highlights the mining sector's integration into the national economy, identifying 192 productive linkages. The study notes that mining-related activities support millions of jobs across forward linkages, supplier sectors, and associated services. Furthermore, the report indicates that the United States receives approximately 52% of Mexican mineral exports, with over 90% of those exports involving value-added transformation processes.
