Mining Union leader demands probe into ties with organized crime

Napoleón Gómez Urrutia, leader of the Mining Union, is calling for investigations into alleged collusion between mining companies and organized crime. He claims that mining concessions, including those operated by Canadian consortia and large national corporations, have hired criminal cells, endangering the security and human rights of workers.

Gómez Urrutia reported that formal complaints were filed with the Zacatecas State Attorney General's Office and the Federal Attorney General's Office. However, he criticized the lack of progress, noting that the state office archived the file while the federal investigation has yet to yield results. He expressed concern that government authorities have been inactive or complacent regarding these links.
