Minions & Monsters film launch drives Wendy's employee‑focused promotion

Illumination’s upcoming animated comedy *Minions & Monsters*, set in 1927 Hollywood, is slated for release in 2026. The film, the seventh entry in the Despicable Me franchise, features a star‑studded voice cast and an $85 million budget. Wendy’s has partnered with the movie for a nationwide promotion, distributing exclusive collectibles, themed packaging and new menu items across its nearly 6,000 U.S. restaurants.

Wendy’s U.S. president Pete Suerken says the chain is using the tie‑in to engage frontline workers, treating them as “the star of the show” rather than a checklist. Internal communications begin eight to nine months before launch, using newsletters, system‑wide calls and on‑site briefings to ensure staff understand the campaign and can share their own videos and photos. The strategy aims to turn employees into marketers and boost the promotion’s impact.

The film itself blends classic Hollywood references with the franchise’s signature silliness, offering vivid animation and a plot in which the Minions seek to make movies during cinema’s early era.
