Illumination’s ‘Minions & Monsters’ draws worldwide box‑office success and cultural milestones
The 2026 animated feature Minions & Monsters has become a major hit for Illumination. In its opening two days the film earned $62.6 million globally, including $25 million in the United States, making it the third‑best opening in the franchise. The production cost about $85 million and must reach roughly $255 million worldwide to turn a profit.
The movie is the seventh entry in the Minions series and the third in its own saga, showcasing the yellow helpers’ adventures in 1920s Hollywood where they seek monsters for a film project. New narrative elements introduced include multiple Minion tribes and a back‑story that expands the franchise’s mythology.
Screenings have reached unconventional venues: the Cineteca Nacional in Mexico City added the film to its program, marking the first time an Illumination title has been shown at the nation’s premier art‑house cinema. The film is also playing in Argentine multiplexes and debuted in Colombian theaters on 2 July 2026.
Home‑media plans announced by Universal Pictures Home Entertainment will see the film released on Blu‑ray and DVD in Germany in 2026, though a 4K‑UHD version for the German market has not been confirmed.
