Minister Ajay Dharam Singh demands resignation of India's CEC
Karnataka Minister Ajay Dharam Singh has called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the Election Commission of India (ECI) is making unilateral decisions.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Singh claimed that the three-member poll panel lacks consensus. He noted that two commissioners have reportedly raised objections through approximately 14 letters over the last 10 months. Singh stated that the Congress party is joined by the rest of the opposition in raising these concerns regarding the ECI's decision-making process.
Singh emphasized that the Election Commission must be accountable to the people and argued that the current lack of internal agreement within the commission undermines the democratic process.
