Minister Bolat to attend G20 and steel capacity meetings in US
Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat is traveling to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to participate in the G20 Trade Ministers meeting and the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity (GFSEC) ministerial meetings.
Under the current US G20 presidency, discussions will focus on several critical issues, including the use of food as a coercive trade weapon, addressing structural overcapacity in production, and eliminating forced labor within global supply chains. Additionally, ministers will discuss updating the ‘most-favored-nation’ principle, a cornerstone of the multilateral trading system.
The GFSEC meeting will specifically address the long-standing issue of overcapacity within the steel sector, evaluating its various impacts and potential steps to mitigate its root causes. During the two-day event, Minister Bolat is expected to represent Turkey’s perspectives and engage in bilateral talks with representatives from the United States, the European Union, Canada, the United Kingdom, Poland, South Korea, and Saudi Arabia.
