Minister Brian Yuliarto emphasizes student competence and psychology's role

Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, has emphasized the importance of maximizing academic opportunities and strengthening psychological education to support national development.

During an orientation event for 4,751 new students at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha in Bali, Yuliarto urged students to focus on building competence, character, and self-management skills rather than just obtaining degrees. He noted that students must prepare for a rapidly changing world driven by technological and scientific advancements.

In a separate address at a national seminar hosted by the University of Indonesia, Yuliarto called on the psychology academic community to increase its contribution to society. He highlighted the need for psychological expertise to help the younger generation navigate global competition and mental health challenges, noting that approximately 10% of Indonesian children screened show indications of mental health issues.
