Minister Dávid Vitézy alleges M6 motorway overpricing and files prosecution report

Transport and Investment Minister Dávid Vitézy has filed a report with the prosecution regarding allegations of massive overpricing in the operation of the M6 motorway. Vitézy claims that the previous administration's decision to award the operation of the section between Érd and Dunaújváros to Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. (MKIF) resulted in a potential 105 billion forint loss to the Hungarian budget.

Vitézy alleges that while MKIF would have performed the task for 149 billion forints under previous contracts, the current operator, a company linked to Lőrinc Mészáros and László Szijjárty, is performing the same task for 44 billion forints over 11 years. He characterized this discrepancy as a “threefold overpricing.”

To counter claims from the Fidesz party that the previous government had not granted the operating rights to MKIF, Vitézy presented a document from the ministry of former Deputy State Secretary Tamás Bartal, which bears the signature of János Lázár. The document confirms that a ministerial decision was made to transfer the operation of the M6 and parts of the M8 motorways to MKIF effective October 8. Vitézy has submitted all collected evidence to the prosecutor's office for investigation.
