Minister Ersoy inspects Perre Ancient City excavations in Adıyaman
Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy visited Adıyaman to inspect excavation and preservation efforts at the Perre Ancient City. A key site of the historical Kommagene Kingdom, Perre features Roman-era fountains, rock tombs, and partially preserved city walls.
Under the Ministry’s ‘Heritage for the Future’ project, 5.8 million lira has been allocated for 2025 to support excavation and minor repair works at the site. Additionally, new initiatives are being launched to enhance the visitor experience at the ancient city.
During his visit, Ersoy also oversaw the reopening of several historical structures that were damaged in the February 6 earthquakes. Following completed restoration work, the Merkez Musalla Mosque, Besni Kurşunlu Mosque, and the Abuzer Gaffari Mosque and Tomb have been returned to service.
